That bye week was quite nice, huh? No depressing Jets loss to ruin your weekend. Unfortunately the Jets are back at it today with a 1pm matchup hosting the Patriots. The Patriots come in as -11 point favorites, the largest spread the Jets have faced this season and largest since the trip to New Orleans last season when Bryce Petty was playing. It’s truly an awful 1pm slate this week so you may wind up being forced to watch the Jets for one final time this season.
Bowles is definitely going to be fired after this year, but he has had success against the number when playing New England. Todd is 4-2 against the spread when playing New England, including a 3-0 mark in home games. Unfortunately the Jets are 1-5 straight up in those games. Virtually no chance the Jets win the game outright, but 11 points is a lot. Bowles-coached teams are 2-1 against the spread coming off of a bye, while Belichick is just 3-4-1 since 2010.
All the signs point toward taking the Jets and the points. I believe this is one of the least talented Patriots teams of the past decade. Gronk returns from injury and the Jets will counter with Jamal Adams covering him all day. Adams was specifically drafted to cover Gronk so a lot of pressure is on his shoulders not to get dominated like he did last season. I expect the Jets to hang around in this one until the Patriots put them away in the fourth quarter. Take the Jets and the points.
