The final home game for the Jets brings the Green Bay Packers to town. This has been nothing short of an immensely disappointing season for Green Bay, wasting another year of Aaron Rodgers’ prime. This is somewhat of a revenge game for Packers interim coach Joe Philbin – he was fired from his head coaching position on the Dolphins in 2015 after Todd Bowles and the Jets laid the wood in a week 4 London game. Philbin would like to return the favor this week.
The Packers are a -3 point favorite this week with a total of 47. The fact that the Packers are a favorite is quite telling of how little Vegas respects the Jets. The Packers have not won a road game this season, with a record of 0-7 on the road coming into the game today. With Aaron Rodgers banged up, I posit that Jamal Adams is the best player on the field today. I expect the Jets to play well today. This team has a way of raising expectations for next year at the end of a lost season. It’s happened many times during this 8 year playoff drought. In 2016 it was the 30-10 win in week 17 over the Bills when Bilal Powell looked like a future MVP. In 2014 it was the 37-24 win over the Dolphins when Geno Smith posted a perfect 158.3 QB rating. In 2013 it was the two game winning streak to finish the season with Geno playing well. This year, I expect Darnold to light it up and Eli McFuego and Bob Anderson to run wild. Take the Jets to win outright, Jets plus the points, and the over. Jets might score 49.
The Pick: Jets ML +140; Jets +3; Over 47
Season record: 5-8
