Week 2 NFL Picks

When I left the grocery store yesterday with my game day food and beer there was a gentleman playing an accordian hooked up to amplifier. When I pulled in I heard the music but didn’t know where it was coming from and it was only when I left that I saw this guy playing “Wake me Up” for the whole parking lot to hear. It was at that point that I knew I was in store for a good football Sunday. Leaving the store with some Oktoberfest Beer and football food is enough to get a man excited for football Sunday. Then you throw in someone absolutely rocking an accordion and it’s good vibes to the max.

So I won’t lie Thursday was a disappointing night as both a gambler and as a fan of the New York Jets. Watching two young quarterbacks and their young offensive minded head coaches, move the ball up and down the field with ease was a real gut punch. Everywhere you looked online Thursday was people praising both Baker and Joe Burrow. Comparing that to the last time the Jets played on national TV and Sam saw ghosts has Jets fans more pessimistic than I thought possible. Lucky for Darnold he has the easy matchup against the defending NFC Champions to get the season back on track. Enough about how bad the Jets are and how they have no shot of being relevant for the foreseeable future and lets make some picks.

New York Giants @ Chicago (O/U 42)

Mitch Trubisky looked horrible for 3 quarters last week, but saved the day with a miracle fourth quarter. The Giants on the other hand looked bad all day against the Steelers. Saquon was basically a non factor rushing for 6 yards on 16 carries. I expect him to have a bounce back game but I still think this game will be low scoring. Give me the under in this one in a nice boring 17-16 game.

Pick: Under 42

Carolina @ Tampa Bay (-8.5)

Are we just supposed to act like Tom Brady and Gronk didn’t look completely washed last week? I mean I still don’t think the Panthers are very good but I do think we are very much over rating the Bucs. I mean they looked bad last week against the Saints and yet they are still somehow favored by over a TD? It just doesn’t make sense. I think the Panthers speed on offense will allow them to put some points up against the Bucs, and keep it within one score. Give me the Panthers.

Pick: Carolina +8.5

Atlanta @ Dallas (-4)

I had the Falcons pinned dead to rights last week. They are a team who is past their prime and is long removed from their super bowl run. I also think the Cowboys are better than they showed against the Rams. I expect the Cowboys to control the clock with Zeke, and try to get out to an early lead. If they are able to do that I expect them to cover easy.

Pick: Dallas -4

Baltimore @ Houston (O/U 50)

If you have followed along through the years with me you know I love the over here. If I didn’t have to watch the Jets and their shit show of an offense this would be my ideal 1 pm game to watch. Lamar is going to shreds the Texans and I think Deshaun will be able to keep up enough to have this total go over.

Pick: Over 50

Kansas City @ LA Chargers (O/U 47)

I think the move is to take the over in any Kansas City game where the total is below 50. I mean, there is a good chance that the Chiefs put up 47 by themselves in this game. I think the only person who could keep this game from going over is Tyrod Taylor. He is the type of quarterback who basically needs to be playing with a lead or else he plays like shit.

Pick: Over 47

New England @ Seattle (-4)

I was very impressed with Seattle this past week. Russell Wilson looked absolutely incredible and their defense also played great. The patriots on the other hand I do not think looked very good, only beating the dolphins by 10 points. The patriots lack skill position players and their defensive opt outs will show against a good Seattle team. I expect Seattle to cover easy here.

Pick: Seattle -4
