The Jets return to action this week as host to the Philadelphia Eagles. Riding high off of a win over Houston, the Jets will get Gardner Minshew under center for the Eagles today. A bit of a break for the home team. Philadelphia is 11-0 all time against the Jets and will be -5.5 point road favorites at 1pm today.
The schedule really lays out well for the Jets to close out the season. Four of the six remaining games will be home games, and it appears quite likely the team will rip off a five game win streak to get to 7-8 and appearing on the coveted ‘In the Hunt’ graphic down the stretch. Obviously the win streak will need an outright victory today over the Eagles. Now the Eagles were a -4 point favorite in this very same MetLife Stadium last week and mustered a grand total of 7 points with 4 turnovers. That was with Jalen Hurts at QB. Minshew is a moderately respectable backup, and the Eagles traded away Joey Flacco, essentially handing the full time backup job to Minshew. The Jets will make them pay for that trade today. Everyone likes to think Minshew is good because he has a mullet. The reality is that he’s on a 7 game losing streak as a starter and lives to take sacks. He has a -51 point differential in five career December starts. I don’t expect the Jets to blow out the Eagles but come on. Five-and-a-half point underdogs at home to Gardner Minshew and the 5-7 Eagles? Easy money. If Minshew totally outplays Zach Wilson, the Jets will need to take a long look at Ken Pickett in the draft.
Pick: Jets +5.5
